Kathy Ireland named the world's richest supermodel 2012

While reports have said Gisele Bündchen is on her way to becoming the world's richest supermodel, it appears that Tom Brady's wife has a long way to go.

The website CelebrityNetWorth.com has released a list of the 15 richest supermodels on the planet -- and Kathy Ireland gets their top honors with a net worth of $350 million.

While Bündchen comes in second, her net worth is estimated to be $250 million. Cindy Crawford followed with a net worth of $100 million, with Tyra Banks on her tail at $90 million. Christie Brinkley, Heidi Klum, Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Elle Macpherson, and Claudia Schiffer rounded out the top 10.

Kathy Ireland is the world's richest supermodel, thanks to her extensive branding.
At the same time, Ireland appears on the new issue of Forbes magazine along with the headline "Supermodel Supermogul." According to the magazine, the model who appeared in 13 consecutive Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues has made her fortune from licensing her name for more than 15,000 products, from mattresses to windows, under the umbrella of Kathy Ireland Worldwide.

Apparently, Ireland's brands sell some $2 billion worth of retail products a year. Forbes notes that this is twice as much as housewear guru Martha Stewart.

However, Bündchen still has time to catch up. The model recently got into the entrepreneurial game too. Last May, she launched Gisele Bündchen Brazilian Intimates in Latin America, Portugal, Japan, and Israel. The brand will soon be available worldwide.

Most Sleep-Deprived And The Most Well-Rested Jobs 2012

Maybe, if you're lucky, you have a job that allows you to work flexible hours or even from home, and you can sleep late when you're feeling tired. Or maybe you have a job that affords you the opportunity to nap at work
.
But in many of the most stressful jobs, it's not uncommon to stay up late putting in extra hours and wake up early to do it all over again, trapped in a vicious cycle of sleep deprivation and over-caffeination. To highlight those fields where workers are the most tired, mattress company Sleepy's analyzed a set of data from the CDC's National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), and ranked occupations based on whether or not workers were getting enough shut-eye. (The average adult needs seven to nine hours a night, according to the National Sleep Foundation.)

Some of the worst offenders are occupations you might expect to see on a list like this. We know, for instance, that shift workers (like night nurses or paramedics) are at risk for sleep problems (not to mention heart disease and diabetes). And a 2011 study suggested that some 40 percent of police officers have a sleep disorder -- causing many to fall asleep on the job.

The jobs on the well-rested side of the spectrum may be less stressful, according to a Sleepy's press release, and also often involve daylight-only schedules in some instances (think construction or forestry), which limits late-night hours.

Check  the full rankings, from the most well-rested to the most sleep-deprived jobs, and tell us in the comments below if your job made the list.

CNN Hero Efren Peñaflorida hopes to become a DepEd Secretary 2012 (Philippines)

2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida in a live TV appearance on Friday morning said he hopes to become a secretary of the Department of Education.

In an interview with broadcast journalist Karen Davila on ANC’s morning talk show ‘Headstart’, Peñaflorida revealed that if given the chance, he would like to take the highest position in the education department.

“Why not?,” the 30-year old teacher and social worker replied when asked if it is possible for him to become a DepEd secretary someday.

Probably thinking of qualification, the host asked for his educational attainment. Peñaflorida said he graduated in 2000 at the San Sebastian College–Recoletos de Cavite with a degree in computer technology, with the highest honors.

The pushcart educator said he then pursued a second course at Cavite State University with a degree in Secondary Education, major in Mathematics, graduating Cum Laude in 2006.

Peñaflorida said his desire to work for the government is limited only to DepEd. “I don’t see myself working (for a government post) higher than that,” he said, adding that he also has no plans to enter the political arena.

In the course of the interview, Peñaflorida recalled that the CNN grant of $100,000 cash was spent to “buy a small lot” for the ‘Kariton’ building of the Dynamic Teen Company, the organization he founded and heads, “to send volunteers to college,” and “to church as tithe.”

World Oceans Summit 2012 : How Saving the Oceans Can Feed the World

This week, 200 of the world's leaders in ocean conservation are descending upon Capella, Singapore for the World Oceans Summit.

The U.S. is strongly represented among the international community, with top representatives from government and nonprofits. Oceana is joining world leaders from Iceland, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines (to name a few) to continue the urgent conversation about how we're going to protect the oceans. But all the talking in the world won't do a thing. Unless there's action, we're wasting our breath.

These global "meetings of the minds" are great in a lot of ways. But history has shown that they often do very little in terms of real change. More "talking" won't save the oceans. We need action, real, tangible results that will protect them. It's not just about environmentalism. It's about humanity.

We need to ensure biodiversity in our seas (which is essential to providing more food from the seas, by the way) and protect the wonder that is our oceans. But the big news is what the oceans can do to help feed the world, a world that will be demanding more and more food from fewer and fewer viable resources.

This is the sentiment Oceana is bringing to Singapore. The reality is that there will be 9 billion of us by 2050. The planetary pressures of this 34-percent population increase over 2009 levels will be magnified by an expected, general rise in the standard of living. Experts estimate that people's demand for food will grow 70 percent over current levels. How are we going to feed everyone?

The oceans can play a big part of the solution. Wild seafood has huge advantages over terrestrial livestock. It is cheaper to produce per pound. It requires no land. It is much more CO2-efficient. It uses only trivial amounts of fresh water (in processing).

On a global basis, a fully productive ocean could provide the entire animal protein diet for a billion people, or 13 to 15 percent of the animal protein produced on the entire planet. However, too often, plans for how feed in the world in the future overlook the ocean's potential vital role in feeding humanity for many years to come.
Restoring ocean productivity and biodiversity requires that we take practical action at the national level to better manage the world's commercial fishing fleets, and you will be surprised how manageable this task is. Sixty-one percent of the world's wild ocean fish are caught in the ocean territory of just 10 countries, and 86 percent in 25 countries.

And, we know -- from Oceana's own experience -- that it is possible to win real, meaningful ocean victories in these countries for a relatively small investment (compared to the enormous return and payoff for the world's food supply and future food security).

What many of our world leaders should come to appreciate is that conservation can be good for humanity -- in this circumstance they go hand in hand. By restoring and strengthening natural marine systems, we can help feed people far into the future. It's a win/win situation. We simply need to put in place smart, low-cost, science-based policies on national levels that protect wild fish.

By avoiding overfishing, minimizing bycatch, and protecting habitat, we can reverse the trend that has sent our global fish catch into steady decline since the late 1980s. Here's to hoping that the conversations in Singapore lead to real change. Our oceans and the people who depend on them can't afford otherwise.
